Sortino wheelchair accessible tours, is an enchanting place located a short distance from the city of Siracusa, which stands out for the wonderful Sicilian Baroque style that characterizes its historic center and for the gastronomic specialties that have always been present on the tables of Sortino.

It was an ancient fiefdom of the Moncada and Eredia Families, subsequently becoming a barony of the Gaetani Family, coming from Tuscany.

They were responsible for the rebuilding of the city which, razed to the ground by the earthquake of 1693, was rebuilt not far away, around two axes, which when crossed give life to the Quattro Canti, similar to those of Palermo.

In the XVIII century it was one of the jewels of the Baroque architecture of the Val di Noto and thanks to this period of splendor today the historic center of Sortino is a true treasure of artistic and architectural masterpieces.

Among the monuments and churches to visit, with a baroque style that is never heavy and elegant, we mention the Mother Church of St John the Apostle and Evangelist, the Church of St Sophia the Virgin and Martyr, the Church of the Souls in Purgatory, the Church of St Sebastian and the Church of the Nativity.

In Sortino the Puglisi Family Company, puppeteers for five generations, who also have an evocative and well-kept museum here, represents one of the realities that contributed to the expansion of the Opira de li Pupi in Sicily, declared an Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2001.
